Introducing the DVF 5000
A New Machine for the Shop
Stein Steel Industrial has integrated a new machine into our Kulpsville facility. The Doosan DVF 5000 Series 5-axis mill-turn solution. is to manufacture parts with involved geometries in a single operation.
The Round Table Design
Unlike the flat tables on standard vertical machining centers, this machine uses a round table. This table is of a trundle-style design. It provides movement along the X-axis and also has the ability to rotate. This rotation, combined with the multi-directional movement of the cutting head, allows the workpiece to be approached from numerous angles without requiring re-fixturing. The table has a diameter of 500 mm and can support a workpiece weighing up to 400 kilograms.
Machining Complex Parts in One Step
This design is intended for parts with compound curves and contours. It removes the need for multiple setups on different machines because it allows the cutting tool to engage the workpiece from nearly any direction. The goal is to reduce total processing time and the potential for errors between machining stages. Parts are completed in one cycle, which supports consistent output.
Axis Movement and Travel
Movement rates are consistent across the linear axes. The X, Y and Z axes all have a rapid traverse rate of 40 meters per minute. The X-axis travel is 625 mm, the Y-axis is 450 mm and the Z-axis is 400 mm. The rotary C and B axes have a rapid traverse of 20 revolutions per minute. These coordinated movements facilitate the machining of detailed features.
Tool Management and Automation
Tool management is handled by a magazine with a capacity of 30 tools with. tool length measurement probe. The machine is prepared for integration with automated work handling systems. This includes automatic workpiece changers and multi-pallet systems. This preparation supports extended periods of unmanned running, which is necessary for maximizing equipment use.
Physical Dimensions and Build
The machine’s physical footprint is contained within a length of 2700 mm, a width of 2205 mm and a height of 2890 mm. Total weight is 7500 kilograms. Its design is focused on the direct need to produce complex parts with a high degree of repeatability. Including standard probing and thermal systems reflects a build philosophy aimed at sustaining tolerances without an operator having to intervene.
The Role of This Machine at Stein Steel
For Stein Steel Industrial, the DVF 5000 Series serves a specific, well-defined role. It is a machine built for a certain class of workpiece – those requiring multiple-sided access and continuous five-axis tool paths. Its value is measured in the consolidation of manufacturing steps, the reduction of handling and the production of parts from start to finish on a single platform. This acquisition allows us to manufacture components that were previously less efficient to produce in-house.
