More 5-Axis Machining for Our Manufacturing Cell
Stein Seal Industrial is a leading manufacturer of mechanical seals for industrial applications. Our success in seal design and production depends on the expertise of professionals from multiple disciplines and all areas of manufacturing. To make the most of this pool of talent, Stein Seal Industrial created a CNC manufacturing division with full machining capabilities that can be used for practically any industrial application.
Stein Seal Industrial’s manufacturing cell is continually evolving in lock-step with the state of the art in CNC machining. The latest addition to the machine shop is the Mazak Variaxis i700T machining center. The second machine center purchased for the cell, the i700T brings advanced five-axis milling, drilling, tapping, contouring, and more, to our machine shop.
Mazak Leads the Way
Mazak, the leader in advanced technology solutions for machining, is responsible for having contributed to many industry-altering innovations, such as Multi-Tasking, HYBRID Multi-Tasking, 5-axis milling, turning, CNC controls and automation. Its Variaxis i-Series is a highly versatile line of full, simultaneous 5-axis machining centers that perform multiple and complex curved-surface machining on large, heavy workpieces in single setups.
Changing the Game with Variaxis
Falling within Mazak’s DONE IN ONE® concept, the Variaxis series of CNC machine centers incorporate all processes, from raw-material input through final machining, in a single machine. This multi-tasking functionality eliminates the need to move a workpiece from station to station as it progresses toward completion. It is in moving the piece between multiple workstations and operators that many costly production errors typically occur. Eliminating those moves helps Stein maximize efficiency, lower cost, and increase productivity.

Multi-axis milling
The Variaxis i700T excels in complex milling operations that require simultaneous control of multiple axes. It can perform 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis milling, allowing for the creation of intricate geometries, contours, undercuts, and sculpted surfaces. Perfect for the range of tight-tolerance parts Stein produces for aerospace and other industrial applications.
High-precision machining
With its advanced control systems and rigid construction, the Variaxis i700T is capable of achieving tight tolerances and high surface finishes. Stein makes use of these capabilities to manufacture high-precision components for aerospace and medical devices.
Multi-sided machining
The machine’s ability to tilt, rotate, and position the workpiece in various angles enables it to perform multi-sided machining operations without manual repositioning. This functionality makes it possible for Stein to produce highly complex seal components for the industrial and aircraft marketplace.
Simultaneous 5-axis machining
The Variaxis i700T supports full 5-axis simultaneous machining, allowing for the production of parts with curved surfaces and undercuts. This capability is particularly useful to Stein when working on turbine blades, impellers and other such geometrically intricate components.
Material flexibility
The Variaxis i700T is a versatile machining center that can handle a wide range of materials, including metals, plastics, composites, and more. It is suitable for both small-scale production and high-mix, low-volume machining, making it a valuable asset for Stein Seal Industrial as we add even more capabilities to serve our clients’ needs.
With the addition of the second Variaxis i700T, Stein continues to capitalize on advancements in machining technologies to increase manufacturing capacity and provide our team members with the best tools and technologies for achieving the results the market demands.
